Upselling in live chat
Someone who writes in your chat is already close to buying. Help them find something else they need: a matching item, a better model, or something that arrives tomorrow.
Products while the customer waits
The chat shows items from your catalog on its own while the operator types a reply.
A product card in 2 clicks
The operator finds a product and sends it with a photo and price — no copying links.
“We’ll let you know when…”
Out of stock or too pricey? The customer leaves a contact and gets a message when the item is back or cheaper.
What upselling and cross-selling mean
Upselling in the broad sense is when a customer buys something extra on top of the main purchase. There are two kinds:
- Cross-selling — a matching item. A hat with a jacket, a bowl with pet food, brake discs with brake pads.
- Upselling — a more expensive or better version. A set with cups instead of a small jug, a reflective collar instead of a plain one.
Chat is the easiest place to upsell: you’re already talking to the person, you know what they need, and you can give advice like a human, not with a pushy banner. “People often take a water-repellent spray with this jacket — want me to show you?” sounds like care, not advertising.
How Talkoly helps you upsell
Everything runs on your product feed. A feed is a file with a list of your products: name, photo, price, stock. Prom, Rozetka, Horoshop (a popular Ukrainian store builder) and Google Merchant can already create one. You give Talkoly the feed link — and the chat knows your catalog.
- Products shown while the customer waits. Instead of an empty “Please wait”, the shopper sees similar items. They may find what they need even before the operator replies.
- Product cards from the operator. A customer buys dog shampoo — the operator adds a card with a grooming comb in two clicks. Photo, price and a link button, right in the conversation.
- “We’ll let you know when it’s back or cheaper.” The right size isn’t available — the customer doesn’t leave for good but waits for your message.
- Badges on products, such as “National Cashback” (a Ukrainian government cashback program), so the shopper sees the benefit right away.
The operator doesn’t need to remember the whole range: searching the feed shows the name, price and stock right in the dashboard.
While the customer waits, you can also keep them entertained with a mini-game with a promo code.
UTM tags: see what the chat sold
A UTM tag is a label added to a link that shows where a visitor came from. Talkoly adds these tags to product links sent from the chat. In Google Analytics or other stats, you’ll see how many orders came from the chat’s product cards.
And on the Pro plan, Talkoly analytics include a “money from chat” report, conversion (how many conversations ended in a purchase) and lost customers.
How to get started
- Sign up and add the chat to your website.
- Copy the product feed link from your platform (for example, Horoshop or Prom).
- Paste it into your Talkoly dashboard and turn on product suggestions.
- Send product cards to customers — and close the sale with an invoice in the chat.
Frequently asked questions
What do I need to show products in the chat?
A link to your store’s product feed. Prom, Rozetka, Horoshop and Google Merchant can create one. The feature is available on the Business and Pro plans.
Won’t this feel like pushy advertising?
Products are only shown while the customer is waiting for a reply, and the operator sends cards when they make sense. It’s advice in a conversation, not a banner covering half the screen.
How can I tell how many sales upselling in chat brought in?
Links from the chat carry UTM tags, so the orders show up in your stats. On the Pro plan, Talkoly analytics also have a “money from chat” report and conversation conversion.
